Newcastle United are hoping that they can lure Queens Park Rangers star Charlie Austin by offering him the iconic number nine shirt, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
The 25-year-old was the subject of a recent £10million bid from Southampton and has also attracted interest from West Ham United, Chelsea, as well as Liverpool.
He is currently valued at about £15million and is being tipped to leave QPR after he was unable to help his team avoid relegation from the Premier League.
The English striker has alerted a number of sides with his scoring abilities this term, netting a total of 18 goals in 35 league appearances.
The Magpies have now added extra incentive into the deal by giving him the opportunity to represent the team by wearing Alan Shearer’s former shirt next season.
Papiss Cisse is the current owner of the number, but after struggling with injury over the course of the previous campaign, the Senegal international is now being tipped for a departure.
