Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis is still open to staying in France despite his contract running down at the Stade de Gerland, as reported by Sky Sports News.
Gomis attempted to push through a move to Newcastle in the summer and was suspended by Lyon due to that, although the 28 year old has since been involved with the first team again.
Newcastle are still keen on the French international and may make a move in January with just over six months remaining on Gomis’ current contract at Lyon.
A number of clubs from England are alert to the situation at Lyon although a move this January is not certain with the French club likely to make things difficult once again.
“Prolonging my stay? It is not an issue at the moment. I am happy at Lyon but I don’t know what will happen in the future.
“I didn’t expect to be experiencing this good period, but I also didn’t expect to be banned.
“Everything can change quickly in football. I won’t close the door on Lyon, but I won’t forget what happened.”
