Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini has played down links of becoming the next club manager after speculation that Alan Pardew is likely to join Crystal Palace, Talksport reports.
The 33-year-old joined the club back in 2008 and was listed as a potential replacement for outgoing Pardew, but has revealed that he is still looking forward to playing football rather than taking a role in the dugout.
“I am a football player now and want to play for a few years more. I want to enjoy being on the pitch.
“It’s not for now.
“It is a difficult situation, but John Carver is with us. He has the experience to take the job.
“Of course it is difficult, but it has not affected the team. When you go on the field, you have to leave all the problems behind you.”
The club’s assistant manager John Carver is now in charge of the squad and could even serve on a long-term basis depending on what the Magpies board decide in the near future.
