Norwich boss admits transfer competition looks tough

Sporting Lisbon's Ricky van WolfswinkelChris Hughton knows Norwich will struggle to beat their Premier League rivals to another marqee signing like Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

The Canaries stunned the rest of the top flight when they splashed out £7million to wrap up a deal with Sporting for the prolific Dutchman in March.

And, although Hughton and the striker are both looking forward to linking up in pre-season, the City boss knows he cannot rest on his laurels in the search for new talent.

“He [van Wolfswinkel] is very excited by the prospect and we look forward to seeing him,” Hughton told Sky Sports News.

The 54-year-old admits that competing against the other Premier League teams for a limited pool of available stars is no easy task.

“It’s our responsibility to try and work as hard as we can which is what we are trying to do,” he added.

“It is not always easy as there are 19 other teams in this division trying to do the same, but hopefully we are successful in some of the work we do.

“We are delighted how we finished and there’s no doubt we have a good and competitive squad but if we can add to it then it will be beneficial to us.”
