Norwich given boost in transfer race

PSV striker Ola ToivonenNorwich’s hopes of luring Ola Toivonen to Carrow Road have received a boost with news that PSV Eindhoven are not willing to break their wage structure to keep him.

The Swedish forward’s current contract expires at the end of the season, which has led to rumours that he could complete a cut-price move away from Holland in the New Year, or a free transfer next summer.

Fulham, Newcastle and Fiorentina have also been linked with the Scandinavian star, but the Canaries are believed to be at the front of the queue.

The 27-year-old is one of PSV’s key men, but their manager, Phillip Cocu, says that the club will not be held to ransom by the attacker:

“This [structure] applies not only for Ola, but also for all the other players. I’m not saying it will be broken, but we have never made an exception and at this time it is not necessary.” He is quoted by talkSPORT.

Toivonen has long been thought of as one of the Eredivisie’s most talented performers and has netted an impressive 53 goals since his arrival at the Philips Stadion in 2008 from Malmo.
