Modibo Diakite is close to joining Napoli – contrary to reports that linked the Lazio defender with a summer move to Norwich.
The 26-year-old Frenchman was said to be on his way to Norfolk, according to one national newspaper, after City beat Liverpool to a deal for his services but that was quickly denied by the club.
Now Ulisse Savini, Diakite’s legal representative, has told the Italian media that the Lazio defender is now only a step away from an agreement with Napoli for next season.
He told Radio CDC “Napoli is the first choice of Diakite and we are ready to make a financial sacrifice [to make it happen].”
Savini went on to say that they could write a book about the lengthy negotiations to sort out a deal but that the parties were closer than ever to getting it done.
Norwich boss Chris Hughton’s top defensive transfer target this summer is still believed to be Curtis Davies, who he worked with at Birmingham City last season.
