West Ham United star Dimitri Payet revealed that he is unsure why France boss Didier Deschamps didn’t pick him in his recent national squad selection, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
The 28-year-old has been on great form in the Premier League, scoring three goals while providing one assist from his last five appearances.
However, despite his performance, he revealed that he was left confused after recently being overlooked by Deschamps.
“He spoke to me the last two times that the squad assembled, that he wanted more from me, in the way I played for the national team,” he told Canal Football Club.
“For me, it has been maybe a year now that I have been giving my all and I am probably in the best form of my career. I don’t know what more he wants.
“Of course, I can always do better, but on the overall idea, I struggle to understand it.”
Payet has featured for the France national team on 15 occasions since making his debut back in 2010 and has netted one goal so far.
The Hammers are now fifth in the domestic league after picking up wins against Arsenal, Liverpool, and Newcastle United.
West Ham will be given a tough task this weekend when they travel to the Etihad to face leaders Manchester City who have won all their league matches without conceding a single goal.
