Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand is set to make his loan move to Southampton permanent with the club keen to either sign him in January or wait until the summer to complete the deal, Mirror reports.
The 25-year-old rose through the youth ranks with the Blues, but was continuously loaned out since 2006, making only 28 appearances for the senior squad.
His failure to break into the first team have prompted him to leave Stamford Bridge and with his form for the Saints on the rise, they are also keen on retaining his services.
Since his loan switch to the St Mary’s during the summer, Bertrand has been playing very well on the left side of defence, while on the opposite flank, Nathaniel Clyne has been doing the same.
He has started all 17 of his club’s league matches this season, scoring one goal and providing another two assist so far, helping the Saints stay in competition for a spot in Europe.
