Everton is planning to offer Samuel Eto’o a new contract despite only being part of the squad for two months ever since he was forced out of Chelsea at the end of last season, Daily Star reports.
The 33-year-old striker has been on top form for Roberto Martinez, already scoring four goals in nine appearances as he looks to trigger a clause stating that he can extend his deal for another year if he makes 15 starts.
Despite only starting from the off on five occasions, his manager is already backing the experienced forward to continue his stay at Goodison Park.
He said: “I think it’s just natural he’ll get another year.
“The option for a second year is based on number of games played so it will come automatically.
“All I want is to him to enjoy his football and convey the winning mentality he has to the rest of the team.
“But I always thought his period at Everton would be a minimum of two years, because the option reflects that.
“He could trigger the clause very soon, the way he’s playing.”
