Outspoken pundit says United must win league to save LVG

Robbie Savage has stated that Manchester United must win the Premier League this season if Louis van Gaal is to remain as manager.

The Red Devils have spent big in recent transfer windows in a bid to return to the glory days of the club, with the Red Devils in the title mix this term.

Despite this, the Old Trafford outfit exited the Champions League in midweek after a 3-2 defeat to Wolfsburg and will now play in the Europa League.

Savage has been critical of United and their manager, stating that winning the league this season is the only way that Van Gaal can salvage the club’s campaign.

“After Manchester United’s embarrassment in the Champions League, let’s spell out the only road to redemption for Louis van Gaal,” the Welshman wrote in The Mirror.

“If he doesn’t win the title this season, he might as well pack his bags.

“Winning the FA Cup will not be enough. Not now, not after the way United failed to qualify from a Champions League group they should have been able to negotiate in blindfolds.

“And forget about the Europa League – there are too many decent sides left in the competition. United are not good enough to win it.”

United return to domestic action this weekend with a trip to newly promoted Bournemouth, who beat Chelsea last time out.

The Red Devils have a considerable injury list currently and are down to the bare bones of their squad.
