Oxlade-Chamberlain provides update on Arsenal future

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has revealed that he wants to stay at Arsenal next season, despite suggestions that the Englishman was heading out of the Emirates Stadium in this summer’s transfer window.

It has been claimed that Liverpool are preparing a big-money move for the attacker, who has struggled to secure a regular spot in the Arsenal team throughout the 2016-17 campaign.

However, the 23-year-old has insisted that he will feature in the red and white of Arsenal next season, in addition to speaking about his desire to secure a regular spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

Oxlade-Chamberlain told Complex:

“My personal ambitions are always to play as well as I can and be as professional as I can for Arsenal and obviously stay in and around the England squad as well.

“That’s no easy feat, we’ve got a lot of good, young players coming through at the moment and competition for places is high, and with the World Cup coming up next year that’ll be in the back of everyone’s mind.

“For me as an attacker it’s scoring and creating goals and helping the team to win, so I’ll just be focused on doing that as well as I can for my club.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Arsenal from Southampton in the summer of 2011, and the attacker is closing on 200 appearances in all competitions for Arsene Wenger’s side.

The 25-time England international has only started 13 Premier League games for Arsenal this season, however, finding the back of the net on just two occasions in the top flight.
