Former Manchester United centre-back Gary Pallister has backed new signing Phil Jones to thrive under pressure at Old Trafford.Jones signed from Blackburn for about 16.5 million pounds on Monday, an indicator of how highly Sir Alex Ferguson rates the England Under-21 international.
Pallister, who formed one of the great defensive partnerships with Steve Bruce at Old Trafford through the 1990s, believes Jones will enjoy a long career with the club.
“It’s a little bit different playing for teams like Blackburn and Middlesborough and then playing at Old Trafford,” Pallister said.
“The expectations are different, but he looks like he has a good temperament and he’s obviously got ability or he wouldn’t have been courted by so many clubs.”
“He’s certainly one for the future, the manager’s not afraid to put his money where his mouth is.”
“He could be a United player for a long time to come and that’s why Ferguson’s invested so much money in him.”
“He is a talent, he ticks all the right boxes and I believe he will have a long and successful career at Manchester United.”
