Pellegrini – Man City can win the Champions League

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has come out fighting following his side’s 4-1 defeat to Tottenham yesterday, claiming his side are good enough to win the Champions League.

The Etihad Stadium outfit started the new campaign in ominous form, but three defeats in their last four games in all competitions has blighted their season.

One of those losses came at home to Juventus in their first game in Europe this term, with a trip to face Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany vitally important this week as a result.

Pellegrini has stated that his side have been unlucky in drawing Barcelona twice over the last two years and talked up his team’s ability to be crowned as European champions.

“We have played Barcelona in the last two years and if we had played Barcelona at Villarreal or Malaga then maybe we wouldn’t have gone so far,” FourFourTwo quote the Chilean as saying.

“This is a very young team compared with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich or Juventus. We are younger than the teams who normally win the Champions League over the last 10 years.

“Our team has only arrived in the last few years and we are improving every season.

“That will continue and I am absolutely sure that we will arrive to be an important team that wins the Champions League.”

City have been one of the most devastating forces in English football over recent seasons but have struggled to replicate this scintillating form on the continent.

They have been drawn in a tough group with Juventus, Monchengladbach and Sevilla this time round.
