If the EFL Cup final is decided by penalties then Manchester United should feel pretty optimistic heading into the showdown against Southampton.

The two clubs will face one another at Wembley this Sunday to fight for the first domestic trophy of the season.

United are already the favourites ahead of the game having won this competition four times, while the Saints have never lifted the trophy.

In fact, their best finish in the League Cup was in 1979 when they reached the final but lost 3-2 to Nottingham Forest.

Fraser Forster is expected to be in between the sticks for Southampton on Sunday, but if the clash goes to penalties, he will be at a disadvantage.

The England international has gone seven spot-kicks without a save, and to make matters worse once of them was scored by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is likely to start for United at Wembley.

As we approach the game, Forster is not getting too stressed about the prospect of penalties and intends to go with his instinct if called upon.

The Daily Star quotes Forster as saying:

“It’s a tough one because keepers do research and then strikers know we do research and then you can send each other insane trying to bluff each other and over-thinking it. At the end of the day, you just have to make up your mind, go with your gut and hope he goes the same way that you go.”
