Football FanCast columnist Joe Jennings feels Portsmouth supporters have been given a huge kick in the teeth.
Harry Redknapp – the man who wouldn't no loyalty if it slapped him in the face – has taken over the reigns at the biggest underachievers in Britain.
What a kick in the teeth for the Portsmouth supporters, not to mention the players Redknapp attracted to the football club. How do Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe feel right now? Cheated, deceived, annoyed? All three I bet.
Harry Redknapp has betrayed the Pompey faithful – for the second time. He has no morals of loyalty, Tottenham will now prove his "spiritual home".
Whilst acknowledging Harry's achievements at Portsmouth, you cant escape the feeling like a lot of players and managers today, the man is a football mercenary.
Sadly, Redknapp's legacy at Portsmouth has been ruined, the end of a love affair. True – he did great things on the South Coast, but this is one betrayal too many….one was bad, but two is totally unforgivable.
It's all about Harry and nothing else. Football is the sport for money grabbers, where loyalty now counts for nothing. Can you believe he's done it again? Before being confirmed as manager, Redknapp sought to tell the world about how much he cost Tottenham live on Sky Sports – a real professional way of going about things.
Tottenham will not be relegated this season. They now have a manager in place who – despite his endless imperfections – will shake the side up and get the results they so desperately require. But the pressure will always be huge at White Hart Lane. The supporters are – admittedly – a demanding bunch who will require not only results, but attractive football.
Sadly for Harry, he's now swimming in the shark tank and whether he can handle the heat is a question yet to be answered. One thing is for sure – there's never a dull day at White Hart Lane.
