Premier League giants suffer blow in pursuit of Real star

Long-serving Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos is expected to remain at the Spanish giants despite speculation linking him with a move away from the club, according to the Daily Star.

The Daily Star are reporting that the 28-year-old – who has made more than 400 appearances for Real since he joined from Sevilla in 2005 – is unhappy at the Bernabeu, and is seeking a new start elsewhere.

A whole host of Premier League clubs – including Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea – have been linked with the Spaniard, who has lifted the World Cup and two European Championships with his national side.

However, Real boss Carlo Ancelotti has been quick to dismiss the speculation, hinting that Ramos is a part of the club’s plans and that a new contract may even be in the pipeline. He said: “He is a player who is always motivated and focused.

“His importance for the team grows bigger with each day that passes and I don’t think that he’s worried about his contract renewal.

“That is not my concern nor is it my area of expertise.

“There are players who wear the same jersey their whole careers. That can be said about Casillas, Cristiano, as well as for Ramos.”

Sergio Ramos lifted the Champions League for the first time in his career last season, as Real achieved the long-awaited ‘Decima’ – their record tenth triumph in the competition.
