Chelsea are set to miss out on the signing of Paris Saint-Germain star Ezequiel Lavezzi following revelations made by manager Laurent Blanc, Express reports.
The 30-year-old was keen to leave the Ligue 1 champions after struggling to hold down a regular in the first team this season.
Along with the Blues, Serie A giants Inter Milan were believed to be closing in on a deal for the Argentina international, but could both fail in their chase for the winger.
Blanc admitted that PSG are ready to retain Lavezzi’s services until at least the end of the season and may even hand him a new deal depending on his performance heading into the summer.
“We have been very clear with Lavezzi. We have been very, very clear with him,” he said.
“I don’t want to tell you what we said but we have been very clear with him, from the beginning of the season until this transfer window.
“His contract ends in June and there is a strategy. Well, not really a strategy, but there is a position to stand, hold or keep.
“We have had discussions with players at the end of their contracts. We spoke with them and we told them that we could adapt to their positions if we found satisfaction.”
He looks to have lost his regular role to former Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria who joined from Old Trafford back in the previous summer window.
Lavezzi only managed to register three Ligue 1 starts for his side this term, so far featuring another 13 times from the bench, scoring two goals in the process.
