Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes that Tottenham Hotspur will wave goodbye to White Hart Lane with a 3-0 win over Manchester United.
It is a big day for the North London outfit as they prepare to play their last ever match at the stadium before moving across the road to a brand spanking new one.
The opponent doesn’t come much bigger than Manchester United, who will head into the contest on a high after reaching the Europa League final by beating Celta Vigo 2-1 across two legs in the semi-final.
Merson, though, believes that playing on Thursday will affect United’s threat on Sunday and therefore does not expect Spurs to encounter any problems when Jose Mourinho’s men come to town.
He told Sky Sports:
“I don’t see anything but a Spurs win here. It’s the same situation as last week with Manchester United having a big game on the Thursday night, and they could get turned over here. But this game is all about Tottenham for me, it’s the last game at White Hart Lane and it should be a special atmosphere.”
Unless Chelsea slip up against West Bromwich Albion this evening, a win over United will do little to Spurs’ Premier League title hopes.
As it stands, their London rivals can seal the crown if they win at The Hawthorns, but beating United will further cement a spot in second place – their highest ever finish in the division.
