Former Arsenal player and current Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes that Romelu Lukaku has already made up his mind about his Everton future.

The Belgium international has not yet agreed fresh terms with the Merseyside club, leading to suggestions that he may look elsewhere when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

Recently, Italian journalist Massimo Marianella claimed that a deal to take Lukaku back to his former club Chelsea is almost done, reports The Express.

The West London outfit sold the striker to Everton for around £27m in 2014 after failing to get regular game time in the first team.

Since leaving, though, he has become one of the best strikers in the Premier League and currently leads the way for the Golden Boot after scoring 21 goals in 30 appearances.

For a player of Lukaku’s calibre, one could argue that Everton need to be competing on all fronts, including in Europe, for trophies.

Ronald Koeman’s men are just three points off a Europa League spot, but the striker has reiterated publicly that he wants to play Champions League football.

As far as Merson is concerned, he expects Lukaku to get on the scoresheet in a predicted 2-1 win over Leicester City this weekend, but he thinks that the 23-year-old is already out the door.

Merson told Sky Sports:

“The top four is probably done for Everton now and I think Romelu Lukaku will go in the summer, but he'll score first here and I expect them to win and end Leicester's good run.”
