QPR boss plays down talk of signing veteran duo

Harry Redknapp has rubbished rumours that he will be making moves to bring Chelsea and Manchester United veterans Frank Lampard and Rio Ferdinand to QPR this summer.

The Super Hoops booked their return to the Premier League over the weekend with a dramatic play-off final win against Derby, and are already being linked with moves for fresh players to bolster their squad for a season in the top tier.

Among the names said to be on their radar are those of Ferdinand and Lampard, both of whom are available for free this summer.

The Chelsea midfielder is set to be released in the coming weeks, although he is expected to pen a new deal when he returns from World Cup duty, while the United centre-half will see his 12-year spell at Old Trafford terminated with no fresh deal on the table.

The duo are unlikely to be short of options, but Redknapp says that joining QPR won’t be one of the choices for them:

“I would think there’s absolutely no chance of getting Frank. He’s at Chelsea.” He is quoted by The Express.

“I’d be very surprised if Chelsea don’t keep him anyway – he’s just been such a fantastic player.

“Rio’s now a free agent but I’m sure he’s going to have so many offers.

“Again, I love Rio, I signed them both as 15-year-olds but the chances of getting them to QPR are very slim.”
