QPR eye Green replacement

QPR are readying a £3m move for Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, according to reports from the Daily Star.

A host of Premier League clubs – including Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham – have been linked with the 24-year-old in the past, with his performances for the Royals in the top tier before they were relegated having been impressive.

And now the Super Hoops are keen, with Redknapp ready to bolster his options between the sticks.

Rob Green has started both of the club’s games so far this season, leaking five goals in the process.

McCarthy – who is currently behind Adam Federici at Reading – is seen as a good option by ‘Arry, who recently let Julio Cesar leave Loftus Road.

Madejski Stadium boss Nigel Adkins has already confessed that McCarthy may well be sold before the window closes, opening the possibility of a swoop from the London club.

The ‘keeper has been capped three times at England U-21 level and has also played for nine teams in his young career.
