QPR are preparing a move for Aston Villa centre-back Richard Dunne, according to reports from The Mirror.

After seeing his move for Jonas Olsson knocked back by West Brom, Super Hoops manager Harry Redknapp has turned his attention to the Republic of Ireland international, and could make a bid soon.

He sees the 33-year-old as the ideal man to strengthen the Loftus Road outfit’s leaky defence, which has conceded 36 goals in 21 league games this season.

To make matters worse for Redknapp, Ryan Nelsen is set to leave the club to take the management position at MLS side Toronto.

This has made a central-defender ‘Arry’s top target, and he believes that he can lure Dunne away from Villa Park.

The ex-Manchester City man has missed the start of the current season with a hip problem , but would appear to be surplus to requirements under new manager Paul Lambert, who has put his faith in youth.

Prior to his injury, Dunne represented his nation at EURO 2012 in a disappointing tournament for the Republic of Ireland.

QPR may face competition from American Champions LA Galaxy, who are believed to be keen to unite him with fellow countryman Robbie Keane.

Redknapp is a big admirer of Dunne, and even tried to sign him during his spell at Tottenham manager.
