Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has leapt to the defence of his under-fire squad after admitting he may not make any more signings in the transfer window.

Benitez claims his beleaguered squad is 'not as bad as people think' following suggestions that he needs to sign more than just Argentina winger Maxi Rodriguez from Atletico Madrid this month.

Star duo Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard are currently sidelined with injury but the Spaniard has admitted he is relatively content with the squad he currently has at his disposal.

The pressure has mounted on Benitez with the Reds off the pace in the Premier League and out of both the Champions League and FA Cup at the midway point in the season.

"We will see if we can do something more in this window," he said.

"If we cannot we will stick together for the next challenge. We have a good team, a good squad and not as bad as people think."Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
