Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez wants to make former Liverpool player Alvaro Arbeloa his first signing this summer according to The Daily Mail.
The St James’ Park outfit lost their battle against relegation and will play their football in The Championship next term after a disappointing 2015-16.
However, the Tyneside team have been handed a major boost as Benitez has pledged to stay with the club and steer them back into the Premier League.
It is expected to be a summer of upheaval at Newcastle, with a host of the existing players sold on and a new group to spearhead the assault on the second tier.
Arbeloa has fallen down the pecking order at Real Madrid and is a player that Benitez knows well from their mutual time at Anfield.
The veteran Spaniard would also provide experience and a winning mentality to a team that has lacked both over the last 12 months.
