Speaking to the official Rangers website, club Chairman Dave King has laid out the timetable for when he wants his new manager Pedro Caixinha to do business in the transfer market.

What's the story?

The Ibrox Chairman has been in Glasgow this week meeting his board, his new manager and speaking to club media about the future ahead at Ibrox.

One of the areas supporters are most anxious about seeing improvement in is the playing squad itself, with many feeling it's not up to the task of returning Rangers to the glory days of the past.

They'll take comfort then in King's promise of investment and his timetable for getting business done.

As quoted by the official Rangers website, King said:

They [Stewart Robertson] indicated to him and I confirmed again last night that clearly we will have to continue to invest the squad. We’re encouraging him to try and do any business sooner rather than later because we’re all very sensitive to the fact that Europa League qualifiers are coming up very early, in June. Ideally we would like, if it’s possible at all, to have some of the player plan changes in place before we go into these qualifiers.

With extraordinary challenges ahead for Caixinha, it must be pleasing for the Rangers fans to hear investment is around the corner. That is of course if the Chairman follows through on his word.

What do Rangers need?

The Light Blues arguably need investment right across the team but certain priorities do stick out, most notably in defence. Their central defenders just haven't got the job done this season, Clint Hill aside. However, with Hill's contract up at the end of the season and the fact he is ageing, Caixinha has a dilemma on his hands if he's turn the defensive performance around.

They need more creativity in the final third too. An over reliance on Barrie McKay has stifled the Gers' attack at times throughout the campaign and having more options would turn them into a fair force in Scottish football.

In the heart of midfield the long-term picture isn't great either with recent starters Emerson Hyndman and Jon Toral set to head back to their parent clubs in the summer.

The rebuilding task ahead this summer is huge and aiming to get players in early doors appears to be a positive step for the club to take.
