The French international is rumoured to be on his way out of the Santiago Bernabeu after falling out of favour with head coach Jose Mourinho.
Diarra played under Harry Redknapp at Portsmouth and the two could be reunited if Tottenham can match Real Madrid’s estimated £15 million price tag. Jermaine Jenas and Wilson Palacios could be on their way out of White Hart Lane and the utility midfielder would be an adequate replacement. However, West Ham midfielder Scott Parker is rumoured to be Redknapp’s number one priority.
Manchester United have also been linked with the former Arsenal and Chelsea man. Following the release of Owen Hargreaves and retirement of Paul Scholes, Sir Alex Ferguson is keen on midfield reinforcements. Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder and Tottenham’s own Luka Modric are rumoured to be on Ferguson’s radar but he is also reportedly keen on a defensive midfielder.
Diarra, 26, first moved to Real for £20 million 2 and a half years ago and has gone on to make 90 appearances for the club. But, most of his football has come from the substitutes bench and with the arrivals of Nuri Sahin and Hamit Altintop from Germany his days at Real appear to be numbered.
