Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has admitted he tried to buy Liverpool flop Mario Balotelli when he was still the boss at Paris Saint-Germain, talkSPORT reports.
Balotelli only arrived at Liverpool from AC Milan after a £16million move during the summer and has been blasted by the media for his lacklustre performances, already calling the Italian a flop.
But Ancelotti, who has won three Champions Leagues as a manager, has backed his fellow countryman to come good, pointing out that he tried to sign the 24-year-old during his time in charge of PSG in Ligue-1.
“He [Balotelli] has to find a place to feel at ease. Sooner or later he will succeed, but it depends on him – heaven helps those who help themselves,” Ancelotti told Spanish publication La Repubblica.
“Would I sign him? I was trying to at Paris Saint-Germain. He was coming off the back of an impressive European Championship.
“Then the opportunity for Ibrahimovic presented itself and we went more on the safe side.”
Balotelli is still without a league goal after nine Premier League fixtures this season.
