Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has confirmed that Manchester United weren’t interested in just Sergio Ramos, but that they were also after Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, and Raphael Varane, Mirror reports.
United were heavily linked with a move for Ramos during the summer transfer window, with the Red Devils keen on bringing the Spain international centre-back in exchange for star goalkeeper David de Gea.
However, the two sides failed to come to an agreement over the swap deal, and Ramos decided to extend his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu by signing a new contract.
And Perez has revealed that some of his other stars were also being chased by United, while also denying that Ramos was close to leaving the La Liga giants.
“We know that United showed interest in Bale, Benzema and Varane,” he said.
“I never saw Ramos leaving this club. He was never close to doing so. Manchester United meddled in the situation.
“Those who want to do harm to Real Madrid meddle but nothing really happened, nothing more than happens every summer.”
United have failed to sign any of their major transfer targets, but completed a £36million deal for Anthony Martial from Monaco on transfer deadline day.
