Real Madrid have joined Chelsea in the race to sign Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti, according to reports from the Daily Star.
The Blues have been monitoring Umtiti following an extremely remarkable campaign for the Ligue-1 club this season, and are pondering a summer move.
However, they will need to fend off some competition from Real, with the La Liga giants also considering a £10million bid for the highly-rated youngster.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been impressed by the 21-year-old and is looking to form a defensive partnership between Kurt Zouma and Umtiti.
John Terry isn’t getting any younger, so the French centre-back could be considered as a long-term replacement should the Blues captain leave in the future.
Umtiti has been integral in Lyon’s successful season, which saw them finish second in the French top flight.
The defender played 40 games in all competitions during the last campaign, scoring two goals in the process.
