Real Madrid are set to beat Liverpool to the £46million signing of Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus, according to reports from the Liverpool Echo.
Reus has been heavily linked with a move away from the Westfalenstadion in recent weeks, with the Reds extremely keen on the Germany international.
After the £49million sale of Raheem Sterling to Manchester City, the Merseyside club were hoping to replace the English winger by reinvesting their funds on Reus.
However, La Liga giants Real have reportedly gone ahead in the race for the 26-year-old, which has come as a big blow to Kop manager Brendan Rodgers.
Liverpool do have some good news in their search for a striker, with the Reds close to completing a £32.5million transfer for Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke.
