Liverpool are set to buy £40million striker Karim Benzema this summer, which would open the door for Real Madrid to sign Arsenal target Edinson Cavani, Daily Star reports.
Cavani has been heavily linked with a move away from the French capital after falling out with PSG manager Laurent Blanc, with the striker currently unhappy playing second-fiddle to star man Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The Uruguayan has had to be content playing on one of the wings, and is considering a move elsewhere in order to play in his preferred position.
The Gunners are one of the clubs keen on signing Cavani this January, but will face some stiff competition from European champions Real Madrid.
But according to Spanish sources, Real must get rid of Benzema in order to fund a move for the ex-Napoli centre-forward.
This has come as a boost to Liverpool, who want to purchase Benzema as a direct replacement for summer flop Mario Balotelli.
The Italian hitman has found it difficult to adapt to life in Merseyside, being unable to score a single league goal since his £16million arrival from AC Milan.
Benzema, meanwhile, has had a productive season, scoring 14 goals in all competitions thus far.
