Reds duo welcome Hodgson

Liverpool duo Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher have endorsed the appointment of Roy Hodgson as the new Anfield boss.

Hodgson was confirmed as the new Reds manager on a three-year contract on Thursday after ending his spell as Fulham manager to replace Rafael Benitez in the Merseyside hot-seat.

The appointment of the veteran Englishman brings to an end a period of uncertainty at the helm of a club which is currently up for sale and captain Gerrard has welcomed the stability the appointment has brought.

Reports earlier in the summer had suggested that the instability at Anfield could lead Gerrard to seek a transfer.

"The club have made a good appointment in Roy Hodgson," he told the Reds' official website.

"Rafa left a few weeks ago and I know the club were determined to take their time and get the right man for the job. Roy is hugely experienced and I believe he is the right man for Liverpool.

"I think it's been worth the wait and I'm sure he's just keen now to get on with it and start to quickly put in place his plans for the new season."

Meanwhile, vice-captain Carragher is looking forward to working under the experienced former Internazionale and international manager.

He added on the club's official website:"I'm really looking forward to the opportunity of working with Roy Hodgson as he's got such a great reputation in the game and is one of the most experienced managers in world football.

"After this period of uncertainty, his appointment has given us all a lift."
