Manchester United striker could miss the Manchester derby against Man City after picking up an injury in training, Express reports.
The Englishman was suspended for the Red Devils last three games after picking up a red card against West Ham United earlier this month and was set to make his comeback against the Premier League champions on Sunday.
However after limping during a sponsorship event on Monday the United captain may not feature this weekend, which will be a big blow to Louis van Gaal who was keen to integrate Rooney back into his on-form side.
United managed to draw league leaders Chelsea courtesy of a last-minute Robin van Persie strike this past weekend and is hoping to build on that momentum when they travel to the Etihad.
It has been reported that the Dutch boss lowered the intensity of his training regime in order to decrease his players sustaining injury, with Radamel Falcao set to return against City after missing the clash with the Blues.
