Netherlands star Arjen Robben has been declared fit for Monday's World Cup opener against Denmark.

Robben was thought to be definitely out of the Group E curtain raiser after picking up a hamstring injury during a warm-up game victory over Hungary in Amsterdam last weekend.

However, national team doctor Dick van Toorn claims the Bayern Munich winger could figure against the Danes should coach Bert van Marwijk select him.

"I think that Arjen will be match-fit in time for the match against Denmark," he said."Of course, the coach could make the decision not to play him due to tactical reasons, but it can't be said that he's still injured.

"Head coach Bert van Marwijk has a different opinion on the matter though. He feels Arjen shouldn't play because he missed a number of training sessions, even though he's fully match fit.

"However, I feel different about this. Arjen's fully match-fit once he doesn't have pain any more. And once he's fit, he should always play. Arjen is very brave and is doing his utmost to recover as soon as possible."Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
