Robbie Savage states that Derby could be Van Gaal’s last game

Pundit Robbie Savage has stated that Louis van Gaal should be sacked if Manchester United lose the local derby clash against rivals Manchester City on Sunday.

The Old Trafford outfit started the campaign brightly but have tailed off and now face a battle to finish in the top four this season.

Van Gaal appears to have lost the faith of a section of the club’s supporters, with a host of them calling for a change.

The experienced Dutch boss is under contract until next summer, but speculation dictates that he could well leave a lot sooner than that.

With Ryan Giggs waiting in the wings and seemingly able to assume the role if necessary, Savage has called for a change should United suffer defeat at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow.

“We seem to be going round in circles with United. How many more let-downs and false dawns must the fans be forced to stomach before the board finally acts?” he wrote in The Mirror.

“Four consecutive wins against Midtjylland, Shrewsbury, Arsenal and Watford only papered over the cracks for Louis van Gaal.

“For me, if they lose the derby, enough is enough. Grasp the nettle, put Ryan Giggs in charge and try to salvage fourth place from the wreckage of a season.”

United were outplayed and eliminated from the Europa League at the hands of Liverpool in midweek, which adds pressure to Van Gaal and his team.
