The 19-year-old Brazilian has caught the attention of the Premier League duo after his dazzling performances at the Estadio do Morumbi this season.
Since breaking into the Brazil first team has seen his stock rise with his performances for the Under-20’s side prompting manager Mano Menezes to hand him his first cap in March’s friendly with Scotland.
His progress since then has been rapid with many unsurprised that Europe’s top clubs are chasing his signature with a transfer battle likely to ensue sooner rather than later.
With Spurs, Liverpool and Roma all said to be desperate to secure his services the Tricolor Paulista will hoping for a bidding war which could see them land a lucrative sum for the teenager.
He is under contract at the Brazilian side until 2015 with an €80 million release clause attached to the deal. Despite that it’s thought that an offer of €25 million would be enough to persuade them to sell the latest South American prodigy.
Lucas has made over 50 appearances for Sao Paulo since breaking into the side in 2010 although it remains to be seen whether Harry Redknapp or Kenny Dalglish would be willing to spend that much on the player.
