Manchester United ace Wayne Rooney has been named as the Premier League Player of the Month for January.

The 24-year-old scored six times in four league games last month, including four in the 4-0 victory over Hull City at Old Trafford, while he also found the net against Burnley and Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson has urged his side to put a strong run of results together as they go in search of a fourth straight Premier League title.

He said:"Historically we have always grasped the nettle at this time of the year. They realise there is something at stake and we cannot afford inconsistency.

"I have said repeatedly in the run-in, teams will drop points. There is no doubt about that.

"We also know if you drop more than the rest, you are going to lose the league. That's a fact.

"Our aim is to try and be as consistent and try and produce the kind of performance we did last Sunday at that will take us very close."Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
