Russians launch £5m bid for United forward

Zenit St Petersburg are set to make a £5 million move for Dimitar Berbatov according to Mirror Football.

The Bulgarian attacker has had a frustrated time of late at Manchester United, with Sir Alex Ferguson only using the talented forward fleetingly in 2011-12.

With Danny Welbeck, Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez preferred to Berbatov, the eastern European frontman has been heavily linked with an Old Trafford exit during the transfer window.

With Berbatov himself admitting that he may have to look elsewhere for regular first-team action, a host of clubs have been in touch with the player’s agent Emil Danchev.

With AC Milan and West Ham both monitoring the situation, Zenit are said to be ready to launch a bid for Berbatov and offer him the opportunity of regular game time and Champions League football.
