Saints chief desperate to keep star names at St Mary’s

Southampton executive director Les Reed has vowed to keep his main players this summer despite interest from major European teams, as reported by Sky Sports.

Mauricio Pochettino’s future is also up for debate with Tottenham apparently keen to take the Argentinean to White Hart Lane this summer to replace the struggling Tim Sherwood.

Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Callum Chambers have all been the main characters of summer transfer speculation to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Reed however is keen to dismiss that talk and has laughed off speculation that deals are already in place.

“Both Mauricio and myself are very happy with the way we’re approaching things at the moment,” Reed said.

“We would like to focus on the remaining fixtures of the season. We will pick up the contract talks over the summer.

“We talk about the future every day. We’re both comfortable with the situation.

“As we stand, there have been no enquiries or offers for any of our players.

“No club has been given permission to talk to any of our players. Reports that some of our players are negotiating transfers are misinformed.

“We want to improve the squad going forward and retain our current players.”
