Santos expect Robinho success

Santos have revealed they are in advanced negotiations with Manchester City over Robinho and are "optimistic" about the possibility of landing the Brazil striker.

The 26-year-old forward moved to Eastlands from Real Madrid in the summer of 2008 for a British transfer record fee of £32.5million.

Robinho's form in England has been patchy and the South American revealed over the weekend that a return to his first club was "90 per cent likely".

Santos are hoping to sign the Brazil international on loan for at least the remainder of the season and communications co-ordinator Arnaldo Hase has revealed that talks are at an advanced stage.

"We are optimistic without being too optimistic," he told BBC Radio Five Live.

"The negotiations began last week, there were some mails between the Manchester directors and Santos directors.

"The Manchester directors agreed to the possibility of discussing the negotiation. Our marketing directors travelled to England on Saturday and arrived on Sunday.

"They are in London now and I think they are conducting the negotiations now."
