AC Milan are looking to beat Arsenal to Real Madrid star Sami Khedira, Daily Star reports.
The Germany international was heavily linked with a move away from Madrid after the summer purchases of James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos, however despite reportedly having agreed personal terms with the Gunners, a fee was never settled upon therefore stalling the deal.
Khedira is now into the final year of his contract and to avoid losing the 27-year-old for a free next summer, Madrid president Florentino Perez is keen to sell the World Cup winner this January.
The former Stuttgart star supposedly prefers a move to the Emirates, with international team-mates Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker, and Lukas Podolski all plying their trade for the Gunners.
However if the two clubs fail to agree on a deal, AC Milan are preparing to make a last minute swoop.
According to Italian news publication Tuttosport, Milan boss Filippo Inzaghi is extremely fond of the Real Madrid anchorman and believes he is the perfect player to help the Rossoneri finish in the top three and return to Champions League football.
Khedira only played 18 games for Real Madrid last season, scoring one goal.
