The France international forward handed in a transfer request recently, as he is displeased with the lack of first team opportunities at Stamford Bridge since Andre Villas Boas took over in the summer.
With Daniel Sturridge, Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres ahead of him in the pecking order, Anelka is heading to Asia for a new challenge come January.
“Chelsea Football Club and Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua have agreed terms for the permanent transfer of Nicolas Anelka in the January transfer window,” a Blues statement on their official website reads.
Meanwhile the ambitious Chinese outfit are not content with landing Anelka, and are interested in signing his Chelsea team-mate Didier Drogba in the new year also.
Club director Zhou Jun has confirmed that contact has been made with the Ivory Coast striker, but his future is still undecided.
“Drogba is an excellent player. We got in touch with him two weeks ago,” Zhou admitted.
“From our club’s perspective, we have this to say – if he is willing to come, we will definitely welcome him.”
