Chelsea’s reported interest in Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster looks set to end after the England international stopper signed a new contract at St Mary’s, as reported by BBC Sport.
The Blues are believed to be in the market for a new custodian as rumours over Thibaut Courtois’ future remain, with the British press linking the outgoing Premier League champions with a move for the former Celtic star.
However, a progressive Southampton side are keen to hold onto their best players and have announced that both Forster and midfielder James Ward-Prowse have extended their stays on the south coast.
Forster said that he was happy to commit to Ronald Koeman’s men.
“There’s real ambition around the place and it’s good to be a part of it,” he said.
Forster has signed a five-year deal to keep him with the Saints until 2021 and follows in the footsteps of Virgil van Dijk in committing to Southampton.
Chelsea’s squad is expected to be shaken up and a new goalkeeper to potentially arrive, but their transfer plans may well not be revealed until Conte arrives after Euro 2016.
