Southampton and England star Fraser Forster has picked up an injury and could be ruled out for at least nine months, according to reports from the Daily Star.
The 27-year-old was stretchered off the field in the Saints’ 2-0 victory over Burnley, with medical staff later revealing that he broke his knee cap.
He then underwent a successful surgery, but has now been ruled out for the remainder of the season as well as the start of the upcoming campaign.
Back-up shot-stopper Kelvin Davis is set to be called upon to fill the role between the sticks for Southampton’s remaining eight matches, but Ronald Koeman is likely to add another keeper into his squad when the window opens.
Apart from losing out on a role with the Saints, Forster will also miss out for the England national team, where he is currently second choice behind Manchester City’s Joe Hart.
The former Celtic man has been on great form, featuring in all of his 30 Premier League matches, and helping his side achieve the best defensive record in the league.
