Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has spoken of his pride at three of his players being called into the England squad for friendlies against Chile and Germany next week, as reported by the Daily Mirror.
Jay Rodriguez and Adam Lallana join Rickie Lambert in Roy Hodgson’s squad, which is reward for Southampton’s fine start to the season.
Premier League Manager of the Month Pochettino is not surprised by the call ups despite recent England squads being littered with players from the top sides whether they are in form or not.
Hodgson has kept faith in Lambert despite his slow start to the season for the Saints and may well give Lallana and Rodriguez their first caps in either of the friendly games.
“Whenever a player from my team gets called up to the national side it’s a reason to be proud, so overall we feel very lucky and proud to have them in our squad,” Pochettino said.
“I think Jay fully deserves the call-up following his run recently. He’s had really good progress.
“I am really happy for him and the other two players. We are really proud of the three of them. In football, nothing really surprises me.”
