Southampton manager Ronald Koeman was unimpressed by Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho’s self-proclamation of being ‘a Special One’, according to reports from the Express.
Koeman and Mourinho used to work together at Barcelona under now Manchester United gaffer Louis van Gaal, but tensions seem to be flaring ahead of their clash at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
The Saints boss complimented Mourinho’s winning mentality, however he questioned his attitude and arrogance when asked about the former Real Madrid manager.
Koeman said: “Jose went his own way as a coach and he did things much better.
“He is a winning coach. I like how he has done, he’s an example to all managers.
“In some things, he’s special, but what’s a special one?
“It is someone who has a good mentality to be the best, but it’s not for yourself to mention that.”
The Blues have been struggling so far this season, sitting at a disappointing 14th place eight points behind league leaders Manchester United and another loss would see them almost need a miracle to defend their Premier League crown.
Chelsea also recently lost their second Champions League group game 2-1 to FC Porto on Tuesday as he rested players with one eye on their game against Southampton.
The last two times the Blues played the St. Mary’s side, the fixture ended 1-1 on both occasions.
