Southampton have announced that goalkeeper Fraser Forster has penned a new five-year-deal at St. Mary's, only a year after he signed a deal for the same length.

The England international endured a tough season for the Saints last term. Having put in remarkably consistent performances in his first two seasons on the south coast, some rocky moments under Claude Puel brought about heavy criticism from fans.

However, the former Newcastle and Celtic man remains one of the top stoppers in the Premier League and the club clearly understand that, having tied the 29-year-old down until 2022.

Forster's signing follows that of youngsters Jack Stephens and Sam Gallagher, who both penned new long-term deals earlier this month, as well as fellow shot-stopper Stuart Taylor who signed on for another year.

Despite handing some of their current stars new deals, the EFL Cup finalists are yet to make any real waves in the transfer market this summer, with defender Jan Bednarek from Polish side Lech Poznan their only addition so far.
