Southampton consider move to replace Arsenal target with French midfielder

Southampton are planning for the possible departure of Arsenal target Victor Wanyama by monitoring the situation of Porto star Giannelli Imbula, Mirror reports.

Saints boss Ronald Koeman is trying to convince Wanyama to extend his deal at the club, but interest from Tottenham Hotspur and the Gunners seems to be halting his decision.

He is now accommodating the idea that his star midfielder could leave the club after he was denied a transfer request over a summer switch to Tottenham.

Arsenal legend Robert Pires has revealed that he hopes Wanyama completes a move to the Emirates as he could be the perfect candidate to fill in for injured duo Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla.

Koeman could now be forced to make a move for Imbula as a like-for-like replacement to the Kenya international despite the fact he only joined Porto during the summer.

The French midfielder is also a target for Premier League champions Chelsea as they are said to have already begun discussing terms of his potential transfer.
