Southampton have been hit with an injury blow with Shane Long ruled out for about six weeks due to a collision during his team’s 3-2 FA Cup defeat to Crystal Palace, Daily Star reports.
The 28-year-old striker suffered two broken ribs and a punctured lung, causing him to be unable to feature in a number of coming games, limiting Ronald Koeman’s striker choices.
Graziano Pelle is now the only fit forward available for selection as Jay Rodriguez is still nursing his long-term injury with a return date still unknown.
The Saints boss also confirmed Long’s unavailability, while adding that the injury has caused a few problems in the rotation of the squad.
Koeman said: “For sure Shane will miss the next few weeks. It’s a pity because we don’t have that number of players to go with all the injuries that we have.”
The former Hull City striker completed his move to St Mary’s during the summer for £12million and has started nine Premier League games – with a further 11 substitute appearances – netting two goals and providing two assist so far this season.
