The Saints lost Victor Wanyama this summer, with the defensive midfielder joining Spurs. But they have already found one replacement, confirming the addition Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Bayern Munich.
But it appears Claude Puel is keen to continue strengthening his midfield, and wants the Belgian to join St Marys’ this summer.
Defour is currently at Belgian club Anderlecht, and scored twice last season from 32 league games. He played twice in Belgiam’s qualification for Euro 2016, but wasn’t in the squad that traveled to France for the finals.
Defour is unpopular with Anderlecht fans, after spending 5 years with bitter rivals Standard Liege. And the 28-year-old is keen to get away from the unforgiving faithful, and is reportedly keen to move to England.
Puel has money to spend this summer, after selling Graziano Pelle and Sadio Mane as well as Wanyama.
